Royal Gorilla is without a doubt one of the most talked-about US cannabis strains in recent years and has earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts worldwide. Interestingly, Royal Gorilla was created entirely by accident. Two US breeders, Joesy Whales and Lone Watie, developed the strain when Joesy’s Chem Sis plants became hermaphroditic and pollinated his Sour Dubb. While Joesy discarded the seeds, Lonnie decided to keep some of them and later gave them a chance, which ultimately led to the creation of Royal Gorilla.

Both breeders quickly realised they had something special, but early THC test results exceeded all expectations. With a base THC level of around 24–26%, the strain already stood out, while some phenotypes were reported to reach over 30%. At the time, these levels were virtually unheard of.

The name Gorilla Glue was chosen due to the strain’s extremely high resin production. The resin was so abundant that everything seemed to stick to your hands after handling the plant. Another interpretation of the name refers to the powerful nature of the strain itself.

Royal Gorilla produces large buds and vibrant lime-green foliage. Its intense resin production coats the leaves in a thick layer of trichomes, giving the plant a sparkling appearance.

Royal Gorilla is a balanced 50% indica / 50% sativa hybrid. Its flavour profile combines earthy and sweet notes with aromas of pine and lemon.

This strain has earned several international awards, most notably first place at the 2014 Cannabis Cup and first place at the 2015 World Cannabis Cup in the Best Hybrid category. Royal Gorilla is widely regarded as a premium hybrid with a global following.

The THC content is reported to be around 27%.
